Joey DeFrancesco, Iconic Jazz Trumpeter & Miles Davis Associate, Dies at 51

On Wednesday, the jazz world mourned the death of legendary trumpeter and Miles Davis associate Joey DeFrancesco at age 51.

DeFrancesco was known as “The King of Jazz” for his innovative approach to playing the trumpet and passionate performances that earned him widespread critical acclaim. He had been performing professionally since he was 16 years old and over 30 albums under his name, including a 1997 Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance on album entitled “Where Were You?”

He released two solo albums in 2019: In The Key Of The Universe and Project Freedom, both of which received rave reviews from critics around the world. Throughout his stellar career, DeFrancesco has worked with many prominent musicians such as John McLaughlin, Stanley Clarke, Pat Metheny, George Benson, Roy Hargrove and many more. His influence reached far beyond music itself—in 2008 he starred in a documentary about jazz titled “Keep On Keepin’ On” directed by Alan Hicks which showcased how much of an impact he had made on those around him through teaching music classes to young children throughout Philadelphia where he resided most recently before passing away due to natural causes earlier this week.

Joey DeFrancesco’s legacy will continue to live on not only through his own recordings but also through all of those who have been impacted by his music or teachings over the years. As we remember Joey today we can take comfort knowing that even though one king is gone another will soon rise up take its place- just like welding materials company has done when it comes to producing top quality welding production with low efficiency yet high alloy capabilities that are tailored specifically for customer needs so they always get exactly what they need every time they come back looking for something new or familiar alike!
